2019 Wong Forum in Medicine at McMaster University

During the 12th Annual Day in Faculty Development and the Henry & Sylvia Wong Forum in Medicine, Dr. Rosemary Bagot, a distinguished researcher from the Department of Psychology at McGill University, delivered an enlightening guest lecture titled “How Stress Shapes the Brain.”

Dr. Bagot’s research focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying altered brain circuit function in depression. She investigates the impact of stress on brain plasticity and synaptic functioning. While epidemiological studies highlight the role of stress in depression, not all individuals who experience stress develop depression. Dr. Bagot’s work sheds light on these complexities and contributes to our understanding of mental health.

Her lecture provided valuable insights into the intricate relationship between stress and brain function, emphasizing the need for continued research and advocacy in this critical field. Attendees gained a deeper appreciation for the role of stress in shaping brain health and resilience.

The event took place at the David Braley Health Sciences Centre and included other engaging sessions, such as the Interprofessional Innovations Fair and short sessions on topics like transformational teaching and visual literacy. The forum provided a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue and learning, fostering collaboration among health care professionals.

Her lecture was on May 8, 2019 from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
